The PE Premium for Layton Primary School in 2015-16 is £10,500. This is funding which was given to every maintained school in the country by the Government, to allow schools to build a legacy for the Olympic Games and to ensure that all staff were appropriately trained, links were made with local clubs and activities planned for the children to ensure that they stay fit and healthy, especially for those children who wouldn’t normally engage with PE and Sport.
Layton Primary School are working with Premier Sport to provide every child with access to new and exciting sporting activities; activities that Layton children might not necessarily encouter during their childhood.
Premier Sport are also working with Layton Primary School to stimulate and engage children over the lunchtime period. They will be working alongside our lunchtime welfare team to support organised games and activities in Key Stage One and Two.
Year 3 children attend the London Royal Ballet. Children are exposed to viewing of Ballet and are taught Ballet by a trained ballet dancer over the course of 12 weeks. One of our ex-pupils, Brodie, went on to become Billy Elliott in London’s West End! Here is a clip, from the Year 3 blog, showing the children in week 4.
Year 4 children work with Fit 2 Go run by Blackpool Football Club.
Fit2Go is currently being delivered to every primary school in Blackpool. Year 4 pupils are receiving a programme of increased physical activity and health education that can include:
- Healthy lifestyle classroom based sessions
- Physical activity sessions organised around the school day
- Extracurricular sessions after school
- Family health workshops
- Fit2Go celebration festivals and quizzes at Bloomfield Road
- Player appearances and Blackpool FC goody giveaways
Fit2Go aims to encourage children to live a healthy lifestyle, take part in regular physical activity and to join in with local sports clubs and community programmes which will ultimately improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Fit2Go is being delivered as part of Altogether Now – a legacy for Blackpool, the multi-partnership programme between the NHS in Blackpool (Clinical Commissioning Group and Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust), Blackpool Football Club and Blackpool Council.
Funded by NHS Blackpool and the Premier League/Professional Footballers Association Community Fund, and delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust, Fit2Go involves a range of activities delivered in school and community settings to young people and their families.
Key Stage One and Two are purchased mobile play equipment to use over playtimes and lunchtimes. This equipment is chosen to encourage play, develop teamwork, share, develop and maintain good relationships, to become increasingly resilient and improve the fitness of our children. Key Stage 2 children have been involved in the ordering of their equipment.
