‘If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.’
Martin Luther
Our writing curriculum provides children with the essential transcription and composition skills to enable them to be confident, independent writers for a range of audiences, purposes and effects.
Children are immersed in high-quality texts from a range of authors which inspires pupils’ imagination, whilst increasing their exposure to new vocabulary. Throughout their school journey, pupils develop their love of writing whilst deconstructing text and, subsequently, reconstructing their own at a level of independence appropriate to their stage.
Children write to persuade, to entertain and to inform and progressively develop the language features and structure for pupils to develop their writing skills according to their stage of development. Assessment for learning underpins this process.
Through skilful questioning, scaffolding and modelling from the teacher, children are taught to independently read as a writer (deconstructing text) so that they can write as a reader (reconstructing text).
