    Modern Foreign Languages - French

"You can never understand one language, until you at least know two"

    Geoffery Willans

At Layton, we believe that the teaching and learning of MFL should provide an educational, social and cultural experience for all of our children. By doing this, we will raise children's awareness of the multi-lingual and multi- cultural world in which they live.

    Our aims are:

    • To develop a love of learning other languages
    • To acquire an understanding and fluency in basic conversational French, in both written and spoken language
    • To have the confidence to speak French with others in a variety of contexts
    • To have an awareness of the French culture and other countries where the language is spoken.

Lessons incorporate a range of teaching strategies from independent tasks, paired and group work, including role-play, language games and language songs. Through regular retrieval practice, both verbal and written French can be used with increased confidence, whilst consistently learning about grammar rules and specific pronunciation practices to further improve knowledge and understanding of language learning.
