Technology in our modern world is ever present. We believe that it is vital that children learn to use technology responsibly to support their learning and communication. Developing digitally literate children is vital in the world they inherit. From year 1, every child has access to their Ipad during the school day; this is a digital pencil case. Children utilise the Ipad to communicate their learning on a daily basis.
Our technology curriculum is divided into four strands: communicate, connect, collect and code. Children apply this programming knowledge using their Ipad, programmable Lego, drones and spheros.
Critical and computational thinking are utilised in our technology curriculum to develop programming skills. This builds resilience and problem-solving alongside the ability to think critically. Continual assessment and retrieval of previous learning ensures children progress and develop the skills to use and apply increasingly complex computer code.
Our children leave Layton empowered to utilise technology responsibly, and develop a thorough understanding and awareness of online safety. We nurture a curiosity and desire to learn to allow pupils to thrive in a technological world. We support children to learn, unlearn and relearn; these are the skills they will require in the future in a world where technology is advancing rapidly.
