We teach the building blocks of reading from the moment children start school and ensure reading has a high priority in all curriculum areas throughout pupils’ time in school. Our range of literature ensures children read for pleasure as well as develop as fluent readers.
Children experience increasingly complex texts as they progress through school.
In order to ensure children continue to learn to read whilst reading to learn, fluency practise is a fundamental tool utilised by teachers within our daily 30 minute reading sessions. Alongside this, skilful questioning unpicks understanding of the text read to develop inference and deduction skills.
As children access phonics and develop their reading fluency, their home reading book aligns with their phonics stage. We deploy a wide range of strategies to ensure that no child is left and every child becomes a successful reader.
